The following regulations are given to the chaperones and security guards. Each student from Saint Joseph High School and her guests should be familiar with these regulations. Students attending any dance are subject to search of property and hereby have parental consent to participate in a breathalyzer test when requested to do so.
Admission time is from 8:00 to 9:00pm. No one will be admitted after 9:00pm and no one may leave earlier than a half hour before the dance is scheduled to end. Any student with a valid reason for coming to the dance after 9:00pm must make arrangements with the assistant principal of marketing/dean of students before the night of the dance. All non-formal dances end at 11:00pm.
Saint Joseph High School students must bring their ID cards. All students wishing to be admitted must show a Catholic high school ID to gain entrance to a SJHS dance. Students from any Catholic high school, with proper identification, will be admitted. St. John Bosco students may not bring guests or dates without a valid Catholic high school ID. Saint Joseph students may not bring guests or dates to St. John Bosco dances without a valid Catholic high school ID.
A Saint Joseph student who wishes to bring non-Catholic high school guests may purchase three guest passes. Guest passes cost $2 each and will be available at break and lunch in chapel court on the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the dance. On the guest pass, the Saint Joseph student will sign her name, the name and school of her guest. This will be checked at the gate, and the guest will be asked to show a picture ID before being admitted. Any SJHS student whose guest misbehaves will be responsible for the consequences of the guest's actions.
The dance dress code is the same as casual dress days. Students are asked to dress appropriately. Appropriate walking shorts are allowed at all dances; shorts must reach mid-thigh. Any student dressed improperly may be refused entrance into a dance and proper disciplinary action may be taken. Parents/guardians will be contacted. SJHS reserves the right to determine what is inappropriate attire. At "theme dances," dress is determined by the dance theme. Out of uniform infractions may be issued.
The following will be enforced at dances:
Students leaving the dance will not be re-admitted.
Students will not be allowed to go to the parking lot for any reason.
Students may be asked for identification at any time.
Those who exhibit rude or unacceptable behavior will be asked to leave the dance and proper disciplinary action will be taken.
Two security officers are on duty. One security officer will be stationed at the front gate at all times. They are available if any situation should arise that would warrant their assistance.
No smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages or use of narcotics of any kind will be allowed. Students and/or guests with alcohol on their breaths will be refused admittance or escorted from the dance. Parents will be called and proper disciplinary action will be taken.
Faculty members and parent chaperones have full authority to admit, refuse or dismiss any student from the dance, with administrative approval.
Faculty members will contact parents of any Saint Joseph students who are asked to leave a dance and proper disciplinary action will be taken.
Saint Joseph High School does not allow any type of dancing that may bring bodily harm to the students, regardless of the type of dance. Therefore, slam dancing, lifting, and similar activities are not allowed.
Dancing that is suggestive is not allowed. Inappropriate dancing is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
Parents are asked to pick up their daughters promptly at 11:00pm.
Should a parent/guardian or student have any questions regarding dances or activities at St. John Bosco High School, they are asked to contact SJB directly.
FORMAL DANCES—PROM, HOMECOMING, WINTER FORMAL
Students from both schools will adhere to the following guidelines for all formal dances:
The prom is the annual co-sponsored dinner dance of both Saint Joseph High School and Saint John Bosco High School. Only Saint Joseph or Saint John Bosco seniors may purchase bids to attend Prom.
All guests must sign a contract agreeing to abide by all rules and regulations.
If a SJHS student invites a guest no longer in high school, the student needs to have a Guest Pass Contract signed by her parent/guardian, indicating knowledge of the fact, in order to buy the bid.
There will be a curfew time for arrival and departure. Arrival time is no later than one-half hour before the dinner is scheduled to begin; departure time is no earlier than 11:30 p.m.
All students attending are subject to search of property and hereby have parental consent to participate in a breathalyzer test when requested to do so.
The prom committee will consist only of the senior class officers and school-appointed advisors. The senior class presidents of both schools will co-chair the meetings.
No refunds will be given once the prom bid is purchased. If a student sells his/her bid to another student, the advisor must be notified of this exchange.
A phone call will be made to the parents of any student who has not arrived by the arrival time.
Any student not properly attired for the evening will be expected to change to appropriate attire, and her parents will be called. If appropriate attire is not available, the student may be sent home once parent/guardian has been notified.
Students and/or guests with alcohol on their breath will be refused admittance and escorted from the dance and proper disciplinary action will be taken. Smoking or the use of narcotics of any kind will not be allowed.
No student who has been asked to withdraw from Saint Joseph High School may attend formal dances.
Formal dances are a joint venture between SJHS and Bosco. Although groups of boys and girls may attend any dance without a date, we know not everyone may be ready to date. Therefore, it is fine to attend as a group of friends, or with a friend.
